What families say

“As a professional accountant I have spent nearly 45 years in the service industry. It is a rarity to find a business that exceeds one’s expectations at all levels.”

Bernie M. · executor, large estate

“It was a very emotional and painful time in my life where I was not able to deal with liquidating the estate… in a matter of days the estate was cleaned out, stuff was taken to auction and the home was ready for market.”

Elliot · after losing his mother

“They left behind a home they built and lived in for over 60 years… we had the peace-of-mind knowing that what was reusable was brought to the appropriate people, recycled or brought to the garbage.”

Marc · grandparents’ move to retirement living

Common questions

Estate sales, auctions and getting paid

All questions →
What's the difference between an estate sale and an online estate auction?

At a traditional estate sale, buyers walk through the home on set days and pay marked prices. We sell estate contents through online estate auctions on HiBid instead: every item is photographed and described, buyers across the Okanagan bid against each other, and winning bidders collect their items on a pickup day our team runs.

Online auctions reach the widest audience, generate active bidding and attract a higher price point. Across our auctions since 2021, 91% of lots have sold.

Read our comparison of estate sales, consignment and online auctions.

How quickly do I get paid after an auction?

You receive a full auction report and payment within 7 days of the auction closing.

I live out of town. Can you handle everything?

Yes. Many of the families we help live in another part of Canada or abroad. We can work beside you, or run the whole job without you being here. We set aside papers, photos and keepsakes for the family first, keep you posted at each step, and send the full auction report and payment within 7 days of the auction closing. A full house is usually ready to list in about four weeks.

What happens to items that don't sell?

Anything that doesn't sell is donated or disposed of. If you'd like, we then clean and stage the home so it's ready for market.
